New in Version 2.0:

  • Starting with v2.0, iPieta requires iPhone 3.0
  • FREE AUDIO for many prayers and devotions
    • Audio recordings can be played from either the Tables or the Web-views
    • Audio is optional. (iPieta works without it.)
  • EMAIL current text
    • double-tap in left 75 pixels of the web-view to open email menu
  • SUMMA THEOLOGICA by St. Thomas Aquinas (Veritas tab):
    • Accessible by Indexed Tables
    • Fully searchable
  • TRADITIONAL CALENDAR with readings
    • toggle between the Traditional and Novus Ordo Calendars by shaking the device
    • Set default Calendar to either Ordinary (Novus Ordo), Extraordinary (Tridentine/Traditional), or Last Used.
  • A version of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary(Prayer Tab)
    • Please contact us if you have text for other versions.
  • Ordo (the main prayers) for the Traditional Mass (Prayer Tab):
    • English, Latin, or English-Latin
  • Examination of Conscience (Prayer Tab)
    • (1) Based on 10 Commandments
    • (2) Based on Beatitudes
    • Brief summary of the morality of the human act and culpability
  • More prayers have been added, including those to St. Jude and to St. Anthony of Padua (Prayer Tab)
  • Enhanced "Memory" for tables:
    • iPieta "remembers" the last selection for each table and automatically scrolls to the selection the next time the table is opened.
    • Some tables, such as for most novenas, can be customized in Settings to select to the top, next, or same row, or no row at all.
  • iPieta starts up with the last-viewed table or text:
    • For the Bible, Prayer, Veritas, and Settings tabs
    • Does not apply to the Calendar and Search Results since such behavior is not desirable in these cases.
  • Tabs optimized:
    • Tabs coalesced into only 5 tabs for faster and simpler navigation
    • Prayer tab:
      • Devotions and prayers from the JESUS, MARY, and Prayers tabs are now coalesced into the Prayer Tab
      • Fast access to hundreds of prayers using indexed tables
    • Vertias tab:
      • The Search feature is not accessed in the first row of the Veritas tab.
    • Settings Tab:
      • The Settings and Help tabs have been coalesced to the Settings tab
      • Settings have been optimized
      • Help has been succinctly redone and organized into fewer files.
  • The "copy” feature works in iPieta 2.0
    • This feature is compatible with iPieta's special navigation
    • To select text in the left 75 pixels (from which special drags or touch behavior is initiated), simply start the copy to the right of the 75 pixels. As you slide your finger to the left, the selection changes so that words in the leftmost 75 pixels can be selected.
    • iPieta's special navigation features are suspended when the Copy menu is displayed; the special navigation features are resumed once the memory has disappeared.
  • The Instant Scroll feature is now option that can be switched on in Settings:
    • Instant Scroll is useful for large files: dragging the single touch up and down the left 75 pixels will scroll the text proportionately to the current position of the touch as described in Help.
  • Option to set the Bible book names to the Traditional Douay-Rheims names in addition to the present common names (Settings Tab)
  • The calendar problem regarding the "side-by-side" mode has been fixed.

Bible:

Catholic Bibles in the public domain with excellent English-Latin correspondence: Douay-Rheims, Latin Vulgate.

Scripture can read as English, Latin, or in English-Latin. The latter mode can displayed either as side-by-side or verse-by-verse. Chapters are easily accessed with the indexed tables. The entire chapter is displayed.

The Douay-Rheims is the only public-domain English Catholic Bible we are aware of. It is an excellent and truly Catholic translation, although some people may not prefer the "old English' style. We are hopeful that the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (for the NAB version) and the National Council of Churches (for the RSV-CE version) will delight in the extensive corpus of doctrine which we make available for a minimum fee ($3) and will grant us permission to incorporate these translations.

Calendar:

Either the Ordinary (or Novus Ordo) Calendar or the Extraordinary (or Traditional or Tridentine) Calendar can be displayed. Toggle between calendars by shaking the device. The default calendar type can be set to Novus Ordo or to Tridentine or to "Last Type". The latter setting remembers which calendar was used last and applies that setting.

The Novus Ordo Calendar can be displayed in table format for Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, Scotland, the United States, or Wales. (The default can be set in the "Settings" Tab.)

Calendar Colors and Fonts:

  • BOLD UPPER-CASE: Solemnity (Class I)
  • Bold: Feast (Class II)
  • Regular: Memorial (Class III)
  • Italics: Optional Memorial (Class IV)
  • Red Color: Martyr, Mass of Holy Spirit, etc.
  • Blue Color: Liturgical “white” (e.g., non-martyr)
  • Green / Gold / Violet date / weekday backgrounds colors to distinguish the liturgical season
    • The Traditional Calendar has three shades of violet to distinguish Septuagessima, Lent, and Passiontide

Tapping the row for a given day will display that day's Gospel or first reading. Touching the "Other" button (or doing the appropriate swipe) will display the other reading(s) for the day.

Calendar defaults (Settings Tab) include: Default Text (Gospel or 1st Reading), Number of Months to Show (2-12), Calendar Type (Novus Ordo, Tridentine, or Last Type), and National Calendar (for Novus Ordo only).

The Calendar is complex; if there are any errors, especially regarding any omissions in the National Calendars, please inform us by direct email.
